Week 3 at the Design Company

Hello all,

It’s been a while since my last blog post but with good reason. If you have been following me on Twitter (@graphicscove) then you would know that I have been working for a design company for the past 3 weeks. All I can say is it’s been great! I’ve already learnt quite a lot being there and I’ve also discovered a lot of areas that I can improve my skills on. So far I’ve worked on a range of different things from logos and leaflets, to websites and website coding which has all been great!

Currently I’m on a 3 month trial period with the company (as with all jobs these days) but hopefully I’ll be able to stay on and continue for many years to come. I’ll update this blog with what I’m doing and new design bits and pieces that I find when I can. I’m not entirely sure if I can display the work I do there on my site/blog so it’s probably best not to. On the other hand I can use all the skills I acquire from work and put them into my own projects.

This is also the first day I’ve had at home for a fair few weeks so why am I still writing about graphic design and not resting? I’m also on a day out to France tomorrow so maybe there’s another photography post on the way next week, we’ll see ;)

St George’s Day Ribbon

Happy St George’s Day website ribbon

I have finally finished creating and coding my first WordPress plugin! The plugin displays a small corner image (See above for an example) on your website on St George’s Day, the national day of England. The plugin uses a php script to show the image only on April 23rd so you can activate it now and leave it for the day to come around, and when the day is over it’ll be ready for next year.

Sensing this plugin would be popular within the English community (And anyone else celebrating St George’s day) I’ve also put together a non-wordpress version. The pack contains everything you need to add the banner to your own website including the html code needed to show the image, just read the readme.txt file. Below are the two packages ready to download:

HTML: .zip
Wordpress Plugin: Download from WordPress.org

I would love some feedback on this as it’s my first plugin, plus any suggestions. Either leave me a comment below or message me on twitter @graphicscove

Theme Preview

I’ve been using WordPress for quite a while now and this year I plan to give something back. This post is a little teaser of a theme I will be giving back to the WordPress community, hopefully sometime soon, there’s just a few things I need to smooth out before it’s ready.

Here are some screen shots of a few parts of the theme:

More to come soon!
